I can finally see it now how he knocks all of her shots to the ground EXCEPT the two that took out the Death Eaters, giving her the opening. She also stopped when that happened, maybe out of surprise of acknowledgment of him and his role.

Remember that Alan Rickman specifically states that he worshipped Dame Maggie Smith, and spoke of how he felt raising a wand against her. So the wand lowering is a combination of Snape vs McGonagall and Alan Rickman looking at the Super Awesome Maggie Smith. And well yes, McGonagall screams coward, and Snape flees.

Throughout this scene I bet the number 1 thought in Snape’s head was “damn it Albus, I didn’t sign up for this ”

I always wondered what Snape's original plan was. He was headmaster and pretended to direct the school according to Voldemort's expectations. But how long? What would have happened if Harry didn't return and interfered this way? Would Snape just keep this cruelty and terror not to fall off his pretended role?

the real sad thing is, that harry the boy who could be his son, screamed at him at anger. i guess it breaks his heart again. caus the whole time he tought snape was evil, but he was his protector, he took the role of his father without his knowledge. and again he protected him by reflecting minervas spell against the two death eathers and he left the school without harming anyone. Such a good man
